This spice may help you lose weight, according to a research in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences. The Institute for Advancing Health Through Agriculture at Texas A&M AgriLife discovered cardamom enhanced fat reduction and lowered inflammation.
In mice, cardamom influences the neuroendocrine axis that controls food intake, body weight, mitochondrial function, and energy expenditure. It made animals hungry, but it also burned more calories and fat. Principal investigator Dr. Luis Cisneros-Zevallos claimed the spice might be used "as a promoter of overall health".
"What we found is that this small spice can burn calories and maintain body weight while increasing appetite and food consumption," he said.
Cardamom is used in sweet and savory foods worldwide, especially Indian and Indian-inspired ones such pilau rice, curries, rice pudding, and chai. Dr. Cisneros-Zevallos thinks that an adult weighing 60 kilos would need to ingest at least 77 milligrams, or eight to 10 pods, to notice advantages.
"Cardamom seeds, with this new functionality, can be used in different industries, including the sports industry, functional foods, and dietary supplements to favor healthier foods," Dr. Cisneros-Zevallos added. "Cardamom and its compounds have many potential health products."
For those who have high blood pressure, cardamom might be beneficial. In one trial, 20 adults with newly diagnosed high blood pressure received three grams of cardamom powder daily. Blood pressure readings had dramatically dropped to a normal range after 12 weeks.
The spice has a lot of substances that may help reduce inflammation. Cardamom contains a lot of antioxidants, which shield cells from harm and prevent inflammation. It has been used for thousands of years to aid digestion and is frequently combined with other therapeutic spices to ease discomfort, induce vomiting, and reduce nausea.
Cardamom, when consumed in powder form, may reduce blood sugar. Another traditional treatment for poor breath and dental health is the use of cardamom. After a meal, it's customary in some cultures to consume whole cardamom pods to freshen your breath.
